Expressing Implicit Semantic Relations without Supervision

چکیده

We present an unsupervised learning algorithm that mines large text corpora for patterns that express implicit semantic relations. For a given input word pair Y X : with some unspecified semantic relations, the corresponding output list of patterns m P P , , 1 is ranked according to how well each pattern i P expresses the relations between X and Y . For example, given ostrich = X and bird = Y , the two highest ranking output patterns are “X is the largest Y” and “Y such as the X”. The output patterns are intended to be useful for finding further pairs with the same relations, to support the construction of lexicons, ontologies, and semantic networks. The patterns are sorted by pertinence, where the pertinence of a pattern i P for a word pair Y X : is the expected relational similarity between the given pair and typical pairs for i P . The algorithm is empirically evaluated on two tasks, solving multiple-choice SAT word analogy questions and classifying semantic relations in noun-modifier pairs. On both tasks, the algorithm achieves stateof-the-art results, performing significantly better than several alternative pattern ranking algorithms, based on tf-idf.

Weakly Supervised Training of Semantic Parsers

We present a method for training a semantic parser using only a knowledge base and an unlabeled text corpus, without any individually annotated sentences. Our key observation is that multiple forms of weak supervision can be combined to train an accurate semantic parser: semantic supervision from a knowledge base, and syntactic supervision from dependencyparsed sentences. We apply our approach ...

Automatic Detection of Thesaurus relations for Information Retrieval Applications

Is it possible to discover semantic term relations useful for thesauri without any semantic information? Yes, it is. A recent approach for automatic thesaurus construction is based on explicit linguistic knowledge , i.e. a domain independent parser without any semantic component, and implicit linguistic knowledge contained in large amounts of real world texts. Such texts include implicitly the ...

Leveraging Verb-Argument Structures to Infer Semantic Relations

This paper presents a methodology to infer implicit semantic relations from verbargument structures. An annotation effort shows implicit relations boost the amount of meaning explicitly encoded for verbs. Experimental results with automatically obtained parse trees and verb-argument structures demonstrate that inferring implicit relations is a doable task.

The Semantics of the Word Istikbar (Arrogance) in the Holy Quran based on Syntagmatic Relations(A Case Study of Semantic Proximity and Semantic Contrast)

The word istikbar (arrogance) is one of the key words in the monotheistic system of the Quran, which has found a special status as a special feature of the opponents and adversaries of the call to the truth. Given the prominent role of this issue in the human life system and its provision of corruption and moral deviations, it is necessary to represent the nature of the elements that make up th...

Another important capability in wikis is to allow machines to proc...
